It’s important to note that much like any other provider, the download and upload speeds listed and advertised throughout the Comcast website are considered maximums so don’t be surprised when you don’t get anywhere close to those speeds for your internet.

The fine print or your internet cost is that each plan has a set starting price for the first 12 months of your contract after which the prices can go up.

There are also hidden fees for taxes, equipment rentals, and potential early termination fees if you decide to cancel before your contract is up.

Is the lowest cost high internet speed worth it?
When you look at the different packages, the performance starter is going to have the lowest Wi-Fi cost out of all the plans. However, most people are going to need much more than what this plan has to offer especially if people are streaming or working from home.

Are there extra wifi fees?
When you sign up for a plan with Comcast there are extra fees that might not be made quite clear. For example, if you have Xfinity Wi-Fi, the Gateway, or the modem and router you use, is an additional $14 every month. If you live in a house that is bigger than 2000 square feet, your wife I might not reach the entire house so if you get a repeater, it will cost an additional $25 per month.

Each of the fees listed above are subject to change at any time. While Comcast does offer a range of promotions for new customers, the freebies you get usually have an expiration date. For example, you might get an additional streaming service as part of the promotion when you sign up, but after three months it expires and you will be charged unless you cancel. Many customers have complained that the rug was pulled out from underneath them so to speak when it came to bonuses.

The monthly cost listed above is also contingent upon signing up for automatic payments and paperless billing. Technically Comcast says you can save $10 each month when you use automatic payments and paperless billing, but that $10 of savings is automatically calculated into the price they advertise so if you don’t sign up for these two features when you start a new contract, your monthly bill will be $10 extra.

If you choose to bundle you can get between $20 and $60 each month off of your services but at any point if you cancel one of those services, perhaps you cancel your internet after one year but you still have your TV services, the cost for the services you retain can go up.

Can you get unlimited internet with no upfront cost from Comcast?
Comcast previously had internet data caps for most of their plans. Families found that with these data caps, when they streamed videos in 4k, they used roughly three times as much data as they would for regular HD streaming and they would quickly go over the data cap which brought with it hidden charges.

Comcast will actually charge you up to $200 extra each month that you go over your data limits. They will send you warnings before you reach your limit so it shouldn’t be a huge surprise, but it’s still inconvenient.

To that end, they do have an option to sign up for unlimited data if it is available in your area. In areas where this is an option, it is an additional $30 per month. If you have Xfinity fiber, the unlimited data option is an additional $25 per month.

If you have selected the most expensive gigabyte Pro Plan, unlimited data is included.

Contract or no contract?
With Comcast internet, most of the low cost internet plans are marketed as a one-year or a two-year contract. With this, customers face unexpected fees especially the early termination fees that charge an additional $10 per month for every month left in the contract.

There are some areas where Comcast offers no contract options. Unfortunately they don’t advertise this well so you have to know about its existence and ask someone when you sign up for a new service. In certain areas, the no-contract plan is available but at an additional fee usually $20 extra every month.
